Graced with the magical illustrations of Michael Kaluta, In the Cities of Coins and Spice is a book of dreams and wonders unlike any you've ever encountered. Nothing is too fantastic, anything can happen, but you'll never guess what comes next in these intimately linked adventures of firebirds and djinn, singing manticores, mutilated unicorns, and women made entirely of glass and gears. I still loved In the Cities of Coin and Spice but I’m sad to say a bit of the luster was lost this time around. And who can resist the stories she tells? From the Lake of the Dead and the City of Marrow to the artists who remain behind in a ghost city of spice, here are stories of hedgehog warriors and winged skeletons, loyal leopards and sparrow calligraphers. Now she continues to weave her storytelling magic in a new book of Orphan's Tales-an epic of the fantastic and the exotic, the monstrous and mysterious, that will transport you far away from the everyday. Her name and origins are unknown, but the endless tales inked upon this orphan's eyelids weave a spell over all who listen to her read her secret history. Things get a lot more complicated when Vlad has to bodyguard Sebastian. She doesn't shy away from the aspects of the subject matter that many drive roughshod over. The angst, steamy passion and heart-clenching emotion that Day put into the story kept mesmerised in the first few books, but having said that, I feel that their story could have been told in less books. But I will say that if you’ve read any of the books of this series, then you’ll know exactly what to expect in this one because it’s just more of the same. ![]() I’m not going to rehash the storyline, because if you’re a fan of the series you’ll know where these characters are at. I’ve been a fan of this series since Bared to You was first released, and I have followed Gideon and Eva’s intense and passionate romance across 5 books now, and though this one provided the happy ending that we all want for them, as a book it left me kind of underwhelmed. ![]() Finally!
